Well
there not too much to tell. I try to live my life the way God wants me
to and living for Him is the most thrilling and exciting thing in my
life. I never know what it is that He will dare me to do next (like
spending 9 months in Africa)…. but it’s an adventure, that’s for
sure. I am about to graduate from high school and as far as direction
for the “after high school experience” God pointed me towards Africa. I
love people, pretty much anywhere where there are people I want to to
be there. I have had the opportunity to teach a few middle school
classes, be a summer camp counselor and recently I have had the
privilege to participate in some homeless ministry (all of which
involve people). In the words of Mother Teresa, ” God calls us not to
be successful but to be faithful;” this is my prayer. I look forward to
experiencing the crazy adventure that God has for me.

  1. I love the adventures that the Lord has taken me on over the past couple of years. I am so excited that you are going to Africa this next year and taking part in the Awakening. Are you excited to graduate from High School? I bet its going fast.

  2. I was FYM last year in Jefffrey’s. I did a year of college after graduating HS figuring that is what “we” are suppose to do. You know graduate High School go to college get a degree and then a job. Well I really didn’t know what I wanted to do. That year was a really hard year for many reasons. But the one light and bright point in it was Christ and what he did in me and that he never left me. So thru that year and a Poli Sci class I started to get the interest and passion for africa and ended up applying for FYM got accepted and the Lord has totally rocked my world since of course with ups and downs.

As for advice for you guys. Pray for one. Two pack more that what is on the packing list. If you want suggestions I can help. All I know is you need more t-shirts than what it says. And really above all remember that the Lord is with you no matter what happens all year. You will have some tough times but only thru those do you grow the most. I am so excited for you and your team. You guys have no idea how much your world will be rocked.

  3. Hey! (this is MY official hello =] ) It’s great to hear from you, and thank you for your prayers. I am too super excited about going to Africa… especially with such a neat group of people. I hope your support raising is going well too… and I will be keeping you in my preayers too! =]

  4. hey i thought it would be good if we all got to know each other better. im real excited about working with you and seeing how God uses us all as a team to build his kingdom. I hope all ur preparations are goin good and that your support letter is a success. Are you planning on comin back for christmas? im not for sure yet and was seeing if everyone was gona come back or not. Are any of you feeling called to be a missionary for life?

  5. hey yeah im considering staying too. im not gona raise support for the flight back at christmas because it is not an absolute need. id love to come back and see everyone but thats gona take 1700 out my pocket but like you said im gona pray about it. How about the internship at the end? are you thinking of stayin next summer and being an intern? i think it would be awesome but i normally work out on the river during the summer and i could use the income for college and/or other mission trips if i decide not to go to college. im sure ill know in time i just like to think ahead

  6. oh darn i hope there isnt a age requirement cause i think it would be pretty awesome and id like to stay as long as i can and take advantage of this opportunity and get as much experience as i can. Yeah no problem, i dont really hide anything about myself im pretty open. well i guess ill just tell a short testimony. i grew up in church supposivly saved when i was 6 but never really understood or committed my life to Him. I got into some bad stuff my my freshman year and God changed me around and helped me realize that that junk wasnt getting me anywhere and i just opened myself up as a “living sacrifice” and iv been called into ministry ever since. iv been leading worship and playing all around for the past year iv been the worship leader for a local church plant and God has made my heart more missional and looking at colleges i just never really felt at peace about any of it and i felt really selfish goin to college and felt like i could be helping a lot more people than helping myself. I prayed about it a lot and did some research and loved AIMs FYM program and thought that it would be an awesome training experience for being a career missionary, and a great way to enter adulthood. What about u? and do you think that you might be a missionary for life?

  7. Hey Sydney, thanks for the comment.
I’m very excited to me you all and get to know you. I know that God is building just the right team for His plans.

  8. Hey Sydney! I can’t wait for this trip and to see what God is going to do! I hope that this last stretch of high school is going good, you’re in my prayers

  9. Hey Sydney,
Wow your story is amazing. I feel the same way about a lot of life’s issues. It seems that as long as we remain faithful to God, He will remain faithful to us. That knowledge eliminates a lot of guess work in life and that is what i love about it!! I am also in a similar boat…im graduatin college (not high school) but i have no idea where i am supposed to be other than in Africa for 9 months. God is slowly revealing his plan for me, but it seems like i want it faster than He wants to give it to me :0) How is everything going for you support? Are you having any problems? Anything i can pray for??

  10. Hey again,

My story..hmm, do you have several days? Haha. Yes I have always wanted to go to Africa, ok maybe just since I was eleven or twelve but it’s felt like Always. Over the years, as with every person from the progression of teenage to young adulthood-my passions and considered careers have changed. But, one thing that never changed was my heart for missions and my heart for Africa. But my desire of full-time, foreign missions always seemed so far away to me. This past summer when I returned from a mission trip here in the states, God made it clear to me that now He had something for me. That missions trip had been with AIM, through my church, and God lead me back to AIM and to the FYM program. I knew right away that I was going, even before I filled out the application. I knew it was God saying. “Go!” 🙂

So, that’s my story, or atleast my most recent chapter 🙂

    What’s your’s?

  11. hey cool thanks for the comment. Im glad you have the sense that theres nothing better to do than serve and that you took that reasoning into action and decided to come on this trip. yeah i feel like being a foriegn missionary would be awesome and exactly what God wants me to do. I love traveling and being adventurous but i feel selfish living in America just goin on adventures for myself. i want to go on an adventure with Christ and share what He has done and try to make the lives of these poor people rich in the Holy Spirit. I would love to just be a missionary now and forever and not go to college but it seems like to survive nowadays you pretty much need one. I will just go where God leads me. so where are you from? are you planning on going to college?

  12. Hey,

I like your story too! Very awesome. I definitely know what it’s like to be in that place, I’ve been there myself.

Preparations are coming along, slowly but surely. They’ve kind of been plagued by computer issues, sickness, and some honest laziness: I was working on setting up my blog page tonight. Filled out all the contact, bio stuff, etc. My letters are ready to go out and now I just have to buy stamps. Lol, that’s the only hinderance there. I’ll do that this Friday when I get paid again. :0) So, things are really good. How are your preparations?

  13. Hey,

my story..well i accepted Christ when i was 7 but didnt really commit my life fully to Christ until i was in 7th grade, going into middle school i thought that God really wanted me to surrender all of my worries and cares to Him. Later on that year at a retreat i felt a calling into the ministry but i didnt’ know where. Freshman year my friend gave me a book on Kenya and Africa in general, i know it’s sounds weird but just looking through that book i knew God wanted me to go.

So through high school i have been praying about what God wanted me to do when i graduate. My youth paster told me about this program with AIM and after researching some other things God made it clear that this is where i’m supposed to be.

What about you, what has brought you here?

  14. hey no i dont. i just got an email address like 6 months ago haha. i was gona let you know if you text or wanna talk on the phone that my number is 423-650-2225. and anyone else reading this id love to talk to you more on the phone. its really cool how your willing to stay and live in africa for life. thats what im feeling too, id love to live there or in another country.alot of people i talk to are willing to go on mission for a little while but i havent met many people that are willing to stay. but ill just see where GOD is leading me at the end of our trip. we only have 6 more months till we leave!

  15. hey yeah invite me! haha.id like to get to know everyone better. i would definatly go to another country. not that i hate America, i just feel like God has different plans for me. Its like im telling Him that im willing and he is like ok well i have a long journey for you to start and im pretty excited about continueing on the journey He has for me. what about you? would you stay in the states or live somewhere else? so what are some of your hobbies?

  16. hey thats really cool about the bridge thing. i read some about it on your blog and it seems pretty interesting. i lead worship for a local church plant and we try to reach people like that and its been pretty interesting. Maybe you can help me out with photography cause i think a local photographer is gona sponsor me and i would like to bring them back some pictures of Africa, if you dont mind. well i actually dont rock climb too much i think maryah jones said thats what she does, i do occasionally if i see a rock face while im hiking i might have a go at it but most of the time i mountain bike and camp. i hike and kayak some too. those are pretty much my hobbies, anytime i have free time i always go out to the mountains and mtn bike rain or shine, freezing or hot.now that we have the time change i dont have to ride in the dark as much haha, so im pretty pumped about that. its an awesome hobby. if i cant get out of the house i write songs occasionally. mostly praise and worship songs that i do with my church. ill probably bring a guitar so we can all worship through music whenever we just feel like praising haha. my email is [email protected]. im pretty sure im going to stay in africa for christmas, have you decided yet?

  17. sorry about the first comment, im not really good at this whole blogging thing yet. im faith, i just joined your team, and im really excited to start working with you! you seem like a really free spirited person. i respect that. what made you decide to go to the awakening? do you feel that god has called you to be a missionary?
